Cops kill kidnap kingpin, rescue abducted director

The police in Lagos have shot dead an alleged kidnap gang leader, John Paul, in a gun duel that ensued while a hotel director was being rescued.

It was gathered that the victim, Saheed Kolawole, who was abducted in the Ikorodu area of Lagos was rescued alive.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Kolawole was abducted on January 30 at about 10pm.

According to the police, Kolawole is the director of Scot Hotel in Odonla, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Our correspondent gathered that the kidnappers, who took Kolawole to an unknown destination, contacted Kolawole’s family on the phone and demanded a ransom of $200,000.

Nigeria naira keeps losing its value.The naira lost N4 to the dollar to sell at N213 at the black market and N210 at the Bureau De Change (BDCs) segment of the official market.

A dealer, who preferred anonymity, told NAN that the depreciation might not be unconnected with the closure of trading at the interbank market by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The dealer also said that the CBN’s decision, which was meant to control speculations in the market, might be responsible for the depreciation.

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended the resident pastor of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim at Agodo-Egbe, Ikotun Lagos, over unlawful attempt to export of 174 kilogrammes of narcotic drugs to South Africa, the agency said on Monday.

NDLEA said the suspect, Prophet Michael Raji was arrested following the interception of the drug at the cargo section of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) during pre-shipment examination.

How Pastor Itua Ighodalo’s Staff Plot To Kill Him

An attempt by two domestic staff to poison Pastor Itua Ighodalo of Trinity House, a mega church in Victoria Island, Lagos, western Nigeria, has been foiled.
The  two workers allegedly connived with a herbalist to hatch the plot to enable them kidnap the pastor’s wife, Ibidunni, and demand for a ransom of N80 million.
But the plot was foiled by the couple before they could actualise it. The police have arrested the two domestic staff and the herbalist and charged them to court for attempted murder.

Jimi Agbaje Says He Will Demolish Lekki/Epe Toll Gates If Elected

Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has promised to pull down the Lekki/Epe toll gates, if elected next governor of the state. According to the PDP governorship hopeful, the arrangements behind the project lack transparency and sustainability.
Agbaje, who made the promise at a peaceful protest, tagged March for freedom, organised by Freedom Group in Lekki, Lagos State, also said that BRT and Lagos light rail projects were collapsing because the arrangements on ground were not sustainable.
