Khashoggi's death was a blow to President Trump, Which was considered signing arms sales deals Which is worth billions of dollars to Saudi Arabia, is one of his foreign policy victories. Also In a press interview with US President Trump he said he did not want to lose a "huge deal" to sell $ 110 billion worth of weapons he says would save 500,000 US jobs, a figure experts say is heavily overpriced.

More and more women have now been entering into politics. Conventional politics reflected male concerns and hence women were notably absent in politics.Welfare policies had been constructed and reinforced women’s traditional position as wives and mothers. Women have struggled over issues affecting them.Women represent half of the world’s population, but their representation in political spaces is far from equal. From the community to the global level, women are underrepresented in elected offices, decision-making and as voters.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Over the years women have been relegated to the background in issues of the overall development especially in the developing nations like Nigeria. This is borne out of the sentimental attachment on feminine gender. Historical evidences are available to prove that the Nigerian women have for long been playing crucial role in political life of the country, and this has contributed in no small measure in shaping the political system of the nation. For development of any kind to be successful, a vantage position should be accorded the women, as they constitute larger proportion of the population. In this regard, they should not be left out in the issues of decision making that bothers even on their lives as a people.A lot still needs to be done to give women more room for participation in politics. It does appear that the huge and overwhelming representation of women at most political rallies has not transformed to increased opportunities for women to contest election.
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Daring to join the male-dominated world of Nigerian politics was a tough decision for Ladi Mamman Watila, particularly in the conservative north-eastern state of Borno. But in 2003, Watila ran for a seat in the House of Representatives (the lower house of the National Assembly of Nigeria) on behalf of the All Nigeria People’s Party. Most of her opponents were men who felt she was better suited to the kitchen than the rough and tumble of national politics. “They called me a prostitute,” she tells Equal Times. “Acceptability was a major problem because, in northern Nigeria, women are to be seen and not heard.”Unsurprisingly she lost the election to the son of a traditional ruler. That was 15 years ago, but not much has changed for women like Watila who are battling for equal representation and participation in the political sphere.

The low level of political and civic participation of women in Nigeria is alarming and disturbing. This hinders women from contributing their quota to the development and consolidation of democracy in Nigeria. Empirical observation has shown that Nigerian women in positions of responsibilities are noted to be hardworking and firm in decision making and have contributed in no small measures to the development of the country. Despite their enormous contribution in economic and other spheres, they have been marginalized in civic and political participation.Encouragement should be given women to enhance their participation in politics.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Today, women are participating more actively in political issues than ever before as a result of political re-awakening and awareness. More often than not, they are besieged with challenges of which discrimination is more rife. Majority of the men more on chauvinistic disposition are preoccupied with the notion that decision making is exclusively for the men folk while women are to be instructed on what to do. This idea of seeing the women playing the number two role at homes has come to play itself out in the political life of the people. And this ought not to be so with regards to the ever dynamic nature of things globally as women are now seeing in other communities as avant-garde in developed nations. It is surprising that the same mindset of yester years is still what is obtained in our country.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

Despite the difficulties faced by women in politics, they continue with their political ambition, contributing enormously to the political and national development in their own way as the challenges militating against them are not present, although Nigeria is yet to have a female president. Women over the years could be said to have recorded some measure of appreciable political achievement in other political fields of endeavors, meeting their political objectives with limited support and resources at their disposal.

Election time is once again upon the nation with candidates already declaring their intention to vie for one office or the other. From the office of the President, to Governorship, the National and State legislatures, politicians have begun their meetings and political alignments all with a view to to electoral victory. Given this development, attention should be drawn to a matter that has often escaped serious discussion in the Nigerian political landscape and this is the need to provide more opportunities for women in politics in Nigeria. That this is so is evident when one considers that women in Nigeria today still suffer a lot of discrimination particularly when it comes to participation in politics. Therefore this issue continues to attract much concern not only from the women folk of our great country but also from every Nigerian who is appalled by the limited opportunities afforded women to effectively participate in politics in Nigeria.

Virtually all Political Parties in Nigeria have strong women wings which are designed to coordinate and maintain the support base of each party amongst women. Women after all are universally acknowledged to constitute an important unit of any electoral or political demography. It is however sad that Political Parties seem to be content with letting women bear such titles as “Women Leader”, “Deputy Women Leader”, “Chief Women Organizer” etc without really affording them a real opportunity of contributing politically to the development of this Country. Sadder still is the fact, as suggested by available data, that our women due to decades of forced submission to outdated ideologies regarding the role of women in society, may have come to regard themselves as eternal followers in the political schemes of events, only to be seen and never to be heard. Happily, increasing public discourse on the role of women in politics spurred by women themselves leave no room for doubt that Nigerian Women recognize the fact that much more can be achieved from their increased participation in politics and are not prepared to seat idly by whilst waiting for such opportunities which history teaches are seldom given freely and must on the contrary be demanded and when granted be protected.

Prior to and since independence, the issue of the role of women in politics in Nigeria has continued to attract debate. At one end of the divide are strong women’s rights advocates who argue that anything and everything must be done to ensure increased participation of women in politics. At the middle are those who concede that Nigerian women deserve more opportunities to participate in the governance of the country and that since political office can only be attained by participation in elections that more needs to be done to provide such opportunities. At the other extreme are those who hold the view that women have absolutely no role in politics and should be confined strictly to the home.

Analysis of data

A careful analysis of data presented by the Independent National Electoral Commission is examined. In 1999, women recorded only 3% representation in contested offices. In 2003, the figure rose to 4% followed by a further improvement to 6% in 2007. However, from 1999 to date, no woman has been elected the Governor of a state in Nigeria. Whilst some women contested and won elections into the Houses of Assembly of some States, the level of representation is still very low. In 2003, there was no female member of the Houses of Assemblies in Adamawa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Oyo, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara States. This list is instructive because it shows that virtually all geo-political zones in the country are represented.

Only 909 females contested elections in 2011. This represents about 9.1% of the over 10,000 candidates.
The police in Lagos have shot dead an alleged kidnap gang leader, John Paul, in a gun duel that ensued while a hotel director was being rescued.

It was gathered that the victim, Saheed Kolawole, who was abducted in the Ikorodu area of Lagos was rescued alive.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Kolawole was abducted on January 30 at about 10pm.

According to the police, Kolawole is the director of Scot Hotel in Odonla, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Our correspondent gathered that the kidnappers, who took Kolawole to an unknown destination, contacted Kolawole’s family on the phone and demanded a ransom of $200,000.

It was learnt that while the family reported the matter to the police, they also made arrangements to pay the ransom. The gang reportedly told the relatives to come to a place in the Owutu, Ikorodu area.

Our correspondent gathered that the kidnappers, on February 4, came on a motorcycle to collect the ransom as agreed with the family.

Our correspondent was told that as the kidnappers made to collect the ransom, a gun duel ensued between them and operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad who were lying in ambush.

During the shootout, the gang leader, 31-year-old Paul, reportedly sustained bullet wounds while other members fled the scene.

Paul was said to have been rushed to a hospital by the police, where he died the following day.

Our correspondent learnt that the police were able to locate the kidnapper’s hideout, where Kolawole was being held, and freed him.

A police source revealed to our correspondent that Kolawole was brutalised by the gang as they cut his body with cutlasses to coerce his family into paying the ransom.

The source added that the same gang had attacked the Owutu Police Division in Ikorodu, and killed two policemen during another gun duel.

He said, “The kidnappers took him (Kolawole) to an uncompleted building in the Owutu area from where they were communicating with his family.

“They stripped him naked, and used cutlass on his body. They poured petrol on his skin and threatened to burn it so that his family would hear his scream on the phone and agree to pay the ransom.

“It was the same gang which attacked the Owutu Police Station and shot dead two policemen. They are known to have multiple hideouts in the area. The police have shot dead their gang leader and the others had fled for now.”

Our correspondent learnt that the operational vehicle of the gang, a Toyota Corolla with registration number, APP 626 CP, was recovered by the police.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, said at a press briefing on Tuesday that further investigations were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members.

He said, “When I got the information, I directed the Operation Commander, SARS, SP Abba Kyari, to go after the gang.

“The SARS decoy team was able to gun down the kidnap gang leader and rescue the victim alive. The operational vehicle of the gang was also recovered while further investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members.”Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18160857891961394381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1474772325643226704.post-43890672600774300822015-02-19T15:06:00.002+02:002015-02-19T15:06:35.688+02:00Monkey Who Starred In 25 Movies Over Two Decades Accepts Life Time Acheivement Awards in Pink Gown at the Pawscars

: 'So Crystal, you have starred with some of the top leading men of all times - Bradley Cooper, Ben Stiller, Matt Damon, Robin Williams - did you have a favorite?'

A Colombian woman has won a two-year battle to change her name to every letter in the alphabet. The 36-year-old, who lives in the Colombian capital Bogota, according to DailyMail, has a habit of regularly changing her name depending on her mood and prior to the latest change was known as Ladyzunga Cyborg. She teaches art and photography at three universities as well as designing fashion on the side. She also has a passion for fetish clothes and bondage events and said she always feels the need to constantly 'redefine' herself and felt that it was now appropriate to have a name that was hard to say. She said:

'I've changed my name so people wouldn't know it's me. But it's not because I was disturbed by it but because I wanted to always bring an element of surprise.'

Ms Uvwxyz, admitted that officials had often raised eyebrows at her unusual names, but that her latest name change to become Abcdefg Hijklmn Opqrst Uvwxyz had involved her biggest battle yet. Adding that she had been fighting red tape for two years in order to finally get approval to now call herself Abcdefg Hijklmn Opqrst Uvwxyz.

Ever had this experience?

You drive into a filling station. You tell the attendant, how much you want to buy. He begins to sell and then tops at a figure, say N1000 and returns the nozzle to the pump. You then tell him, “I said N5000.” He says “Sorry, I thought you said N1000.”

You shrug. He removes the pump again from the pump, and the display is wiped off. He now proceeds to sell to you the outstanding balance.

It doesn’t matter how loudly you shout the amount you want to buy the first time, they still do it. I had always wondered why they do that nonsense until last Tuesday at Mobil by Otedola Bridge on the Lagos Ibadan Exp Way.

I told the gentleman to fill the tank. He put the nozzle into my car's fuel tank and stopped at N1000 and returned the nozzle to the pump. I was annoyed and it was obvious. I told him I wasn’t buying again. He panicked and told me to relax and that he hadn’t sold anything. He now proceeded to sell me exactly the amount I wanted.

In essence, the N1000 that first appeared on the display was phony. He panicked because he thought if I decided to leave at that point when all he had sold to me was hot air, I would have noticed once I looked at my fuel gauge. And he thought it was better to confess and have me quietly leave.

Apparently, when they want to play this trick, they have a way of getting the pump to read to a predetermined figure without selling anything. When you protest that that is not the amount you want to buy, they now proceed to sell the balance to you properly. In essence, you have been shortchanged by the amount they pretend to have first sold to you.

So guys watch out!
The Presidency has given 12 reasons why Nigerians must re-elect President Goodluck Jonathan for another term of four years during the March 28 presidential election.

This was contained in a piece, titled, “Twelve reasons to support Jonathan,” published in the current edition of the in-house magazine of the State House, Abuja, called Villascope, according to Punch.

It listed some of the reasons to include the present administration strides in road construction, railway rehabilitation, remodeling of airports, transformed agriculture sector and increased access to education.

Others are increased access to housing, improved power supply, improved water supply, better health facilities, reformed security infrastructures, economic transformation and increased Nigerians’ participation in downstream oil sector.

The Presidency said Jonathan met 4,500km of motorable roads but constructed/rehabilitated 25,000km of roads.

This, it said, had drastically reduced travel time nationwide. It added that about five million Nigerians now travel by train after the present administration rehabilitated the nation’s railway.

On education, it said, “Jonathan built 125 Almajiri schools, 14 universities and special schools for girls in 27 states.

“He gave 101 scholarships to first-class graduates to pursue postgraduate courses in the best 25 universities in the world.

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has explained why he decided to shred his PDP membership card in public. In a telephone interview with Premium Times, Obasanjo says that some PDP members in the state visited his home to inform him that they are planning to expel him from party as he is not an active member. He says it was during the conversation that ensued, that he handed over his membership card to them and asked them to do whatever they wish. Excerpt from the interview after cut…

“They were concerned that I had only one leg in the party, and worried that since I’m their leader in the ward, they need to hear from me,” the former President said.
You are our leader and it is you we are following. You have remained a card-carrying member of the the party. But since you became angry with the party we have lost sense of direction and now we are hearing that they want to expel you. If they expel you, where do we go? What do we do?” Mr. Obasanjo quoted the ward chairman as saying.
The former president explained that it was at that point that he gave them his PDP membership card and told them that they could do whatever they want with it.
“In my response, I said when you people came you were singing a song and I agreed that Nigeria is our own. If the issue is the party, I will not choose the party at the detriment of Nigeria and I will fight for Nigeria even at the detriment of the party. I will rather surrender my membership of the party so you people can move on politically,” Mr. Obasanjo explained to PREMIUM TIMES.
“If you people’s worry is that I’m a card-carrying member of the party and I’m not showing you people direction and you are worried that I’m neither here nor there, this is the card; you can keep it, you can burn it or you can tear it, do whatever you want to do with it.”
The former president said he then handed over his membership card to Mr. Oladunjoye, who immediately decided on his own to shred it.'

A very lucky woman was saved by two policemen when her BMW rapidly sank into Waitemata Harbour in Auckland, New Zealand.Officers Paul Watts and Simon Russell estimated the woman had less than one minute left when they got to her.The extremely distraught woman was squashed against the rear window as the front of the car quickly sank. With only minutes to spare, a police officer attempts to smash one of the car windows with a baton with no luck. When another officer managed to shatter the rear window of the car with a rock that he was passed from the water. The officers carried the woman to safety just in the nick of time before the car sank to the harbour floor...See more pics after the cut.......
V Magazine is under heavy backlash after their latest cover star, Selena Gomez appeared topless..The problem is not going topless, but how she looks. They say she was made to look like popular children's character, Lolita .Many have said she was made up to look like a 12 year old topless girl which is feeding the fantasies of pedophiles..The 22 year old who naturally has a babyface looks so much younger due to the makeup and accessories used on her .More pics after the cut......
She tweeted her fans: 'It has been a secret and this is the first time Alfie and I have lived together. 'Moving house is stressful and time consuming. We have rooms full of boxes.'
The young couple will also have five en-suite bathrooms, solid oak floors, a designer kitchen and a log cabin to enjoy in their first home near the picturesque South Downs.
The £1million house and celebrity lifestyle came six years after starting her video-blogging site at home.
Ms Sugg grew up in Lacock, Wiltshire, the daughter of a beautician mother and a property developer father.
After finishing her A-Levels at the local Corsham School - she took art, photography and textiles - the 24-year-old started an apprenticeship at an interior design company.
Soon her YouTube channel, set up in 2009, became her full-time job, with more than six million subscribers and 12 million hits on her vlogs per month.

Miss Sugg now charges £20,000 a month to advertisers who want to place products alongside her fashion tips.
Such is the power of the posts of Wiltshire-born Zoe that skincare brands such as Simple and fashion labels including Topshop are queueing up to work with her.
She has created a range of beauty products, published a bestselling novel, been signed by Radio 1, is the charity Mind’s digital ambassador and was selected, along with brother Joe and boyfriend Alfie, to take part in Bob Geldof’s re-release of the Band Aid single.
Penguin Random House, the publisher behind her book Girl Online, agreed to sign Zoella after its CEO Tom Weldon was told by his 13-year-old goddaughter that the book would be ‘a huge best-seller’.
Tomorrow night the YouTube sensation will star on the BBC's Comic Relief Bake Off special.
She will appear alongside celebrity contestants Gok Wan, Jonathan Ross and Abbey Clancy.
Instead of beauty advice she will be challenged to bake cupcakes for the Red Nose TV show presented by show stalwarts Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
The youngest contestant by some distance said: 'I was genuinely a little bit shocked and very excited when I was asked to take part.
Confusion and apprehension have gripped the people of Umunneato autonomous community in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, following the discovery of the nude corpse of a lady in their community.
Investigation revealed that the discovery was made a day after the world celebrated the famous Saint Valentine’s Day, at Okwu village.
An eyewitness, who spoke on grounds of anonymity, told Vanguard that a close look at the lady’s corpse revealed bruises, especially around the breasts and private parts.

Although the witness did not completely rule out what he called a brutal gang-rape of the girl, he could not, however, identify the victim or give her actual age.
The witness said: “I am not too sure that it was a case of ritual killing because no part of the girl, on the face value, was missing.
“It is, to me, a case of brutal gang-raping to death of the unfortunate girl.”
The source said nobody knew how the lifeless body was dumped along the road at Okwu or did it.
Speaking also on the issue, the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Leo Nwokocha, said the identity of the dead lady was still unknown.
According to the royal father, police stormed the scene soon after getting wind of the incident and removed the corpse.
The traditional ruler said he had no doubts that the police and other security agencies were on top of the situation, with a view to ascertaining who the perpetrators were and making them to face the full weight of the law.
The body of the girl had been moved to the morgue of Aboh Mbaise General Hospital.
No police officer at Aboh Mbaise Divisional Police Headquarters was prepared to speak on the issue, but only referred Vanguard to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem.
