Illegal immigrant caught sneaking into Spain inside car seat

Uncomfortable ride... the man is found sitting inside the car seat

BORDER guards in Spain have caught an illegal immigrant trying to sneak into the country - smuggled inside a car seat.

The 20-year-old man from Guinea had pulled the foam padding out of the passenger seat of a Renault people carrier

and hid inside the shell.

Two Moroccans tried to drive the car across the border from Morocco to Spain’s north African enclave of Melilla - with

one driving and the other sat in the passenger seat on top of the hidden immigrant.

The crafty smugglers almost got away with their bizarre crime - until a suspicious guard stopped them at the border

and took a closer look at the car.

He prodded the seat and touched flesh instead of foam - unravelling the cunning plot.

A bizarre police snapshot of the crime scene shows the unnamed man sitting surrounded by the seat's wire frame -

wearing just a vest and shorts.

The two Moroccans are being held in custody, while the Guinean has been sent to a detention centre.

A police spokesman described the attempt to fool them as "novel".

He added: "We’ve seen some fairly bizarre attempts to get across the border but nothing like this before."
