No fewer than two lives were lost and property worth about N27 million lost to flood that affected over 500 houses in Daura Local Government Area, Katsina State. The Chairman of the committee set up by the local government to assess the level of damage caused by the flood, Tukur Jafaru, made this known while submitting the report to the chairman of Transition Management Committee of the local government, Kabir Musa Royal.
Jafaru, who noted that most of the affected houses were built on waterways, appealed to people to desist from erecting structures or dumping refuse on the waterways.According to him, the committee assessed the damage for onward submission to the appropriate authorities for necessary action. Receiving the report, Alhaji Musa Royal said the report would be submitted to the Ministry of Local Government, the state Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (RERA) and National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) for their possible assistance.Musa Royal commenced the committee for a speedy discharge of its assignment while sympathizing with the victims of the flood and prayed God to prevent a recurrence of the disaster.
